MOONAGE DAYDREAM #27´´

PIERRE AJAVON (Francia / France)

2017 / 03’56’’
Banda sonora / Soundtrack: Pierre Ajavon

“Moonage Daydream #27” is a psychedelic and aesthetic reverie – the mind wanders to the soundscape, reminiscences and apparitions. A cosmic dream/ astral projection, floating is weightlessness in the midst of organic shapes with moving and dynamic colors.

“Keep your electric eye on me / Put your ray gun to my head / Press your space face close to mine love / Freak out in a moonage daydream”

David Bowie (Moonage Daydream)

SNAP

JACEK JĘDRZEJCZAK (Polonia / Poland)

2017 / 4’ 11’’
Banda Sonora / Soundtrack: Intuitive sounds – Jacek Jędrzejczak

Between infinity and an end there is a space filled with pure persistence. In this dimension a human existence seems to be a suspension in a dichotomy of stability and change, living and remaining, a guise and the truth, a process and a captured moment. All these oppositions become tensions. And these tension become an essence of life circle. That’s what „Snap” (Jacek Jędrzejczak’s videoart) is all about – the relations of time and space, different faces of existence and above all – the emotions hidden beneath everyday appearances.

THE SKY IS FALLING

BARBARA CERIANI BASILICO-ALESSANDRO MANCASSOLA (Italia / Italy)

2017 / 07’54’’
Banda sonora / Soundtrack: Elio Marchesini

An imaginary motorway through the mountains where the wind runs, which breaks the ice, which draws the snow-clad landscape and where the metals vibration converses, disappears and resists the continuous gusts.

The whiteout is a visual dysfunction caused by whiteness of snow and clouds that confuses violently: the sky is falling.

All that remains is a lonely person, missing in the landscape, who plays a vibraphone and insists on not losing  control.

EL ORIGEN DE LAS PIEDRAS

MAURICIO SÁENZ (México)

2016 / 4’ 53’’
Banda Sonora / Soundtrack: Juan Aguilar / Francisco Camacho

“The origin of stones” questions the ideals of the past and their validity in the present through the decay and fall of monuments built to preserve a historic memory. With a text based on a debate that puts in doubt the efficiency of a scale used to document the proportion and appearance of archaeological remains, this work looks to ruins as elements of live content linked to the present and emphasizes the powerful yet fragile nature of the narratives of history. Therefore, it mirrors the impossibility to imagine the promises of a future on the ruins of the recent past, representing in this way a model of a fallen utopia.

LEISURE

MIA FORREST (Australia)

2016 / 12’ 55’’
Banda Sonora / Soundtrack: Samuel Pankhurst

Two women traverse around one another in a motel; a guest retiring to leisure, and a housekeeper resisting it.

Leisure frees itself from dramatic narrative; long takes of insignificant details and events become the films’ operative subjects, in which the surplus of reality complemented with the accrual of duration, offers a mundane dramaturgy, if you will. By channeling the simple effect of a minimal-hyperrealist style, Leisure relishes in the literal depiction of routine (non)events of the leisure body and the labor body engaging in their respective quotidian circumstances, such as relaxing in the hot tub or cleaning the toilet. In representing everydayness through the quotidian details of two womens’ contrasting lives, I am investigating ordinary lives – the routines that no-one pays attention to, registering these minimal moments, so that when we see them, we acknowledge our own “everydayness” and evaluate what we are doing with our own lives.

NO HABRÁ SERVICIO LOS DOMINGOS NI EN EL CUMPLEANÑOS DE LA REINA VICTORIA

NIEVES DE LA FUENTE (España / Spain)

2016 / 20’ 00’’ (variable)

“No habrá servicio los domingos ni en el cumpleaños de la Reina Victoria” is an interactive installation with analog objects coming from the open pit of Riotinto (Huelva) and a digital landscape developed for Virtual Reality (HTC Vive). This landscape is based on 3D scans, created with photometrical techniques. The virtual experience is influenced by the interaction with other objects in the installation. These are connected to movement sensors and magnets that send impulses to a microcontroller, connected to the computer that controls the VR environment and activate on visitors’ influence. “I left home as many from the same generation that Spain apparently had to let go in order to financially recover. Geographical displacement made home a sort of utopian concept. This is probably the reason why I am working with the “maternal” origins (Nerva, Huelva, Spain). This place is an open pit mine since 5000 years and its aspect and red river filled with super- strong bacteria make the village a martian analogue interesting for the NASA’s space research. The result: home as a delocated project. Home has been “abducted” to fit NASA’s needs: at first scientific, afterwards, theme park-oriented”.

VOID FORM

EMILIANO ZUCCHINI (Italia / Italy)

2017 / 02’30’’
Banda sonora / Soundtrack: Luigi Mastandrea

In web and computer graphics, the void is represented with a white and gray chess pattern. In this hypnotic video this void is writhing rediscovering form. The void tries to rediscover the form in itself, the void in search of matter. This chessboard is at base of every digital image, it is hidden behind every pixel.

TRAVEL NOTEBOOKS: BILBAO, BIZKAIA – SPAIN

SILVIA DE GENNARO (Italia / Italy)

2017 / 3’ 08’’
Banda sonora / Soundtrack: original music

In this project my videos are like carillons and puzzles, that want to show the essence of a city in its manifold aspects and its motion. At the same time, they try to describe the emotional and cognitive process that takes place in the traveller mind. Using details from a photo reportage, I created some digital collages that reassemble the shape of city’s places as they are imprinted in my head. The details are notes on a traveller pad as fragments surviving in his memory. The animation tries to give back not only lived impressions and influences, but also the points of view of the traveller’s eye, that now focuses on a particular, now on another one, zooming in and zooming out simultaneously, in a way where perspective is not given by scientific rules, but by emotion felt while observing and discovering. An avverinistic architecture, made by fantastic animals of galactic prehistory, moving within an industrial-fantasy atmosphere. Bilbao, a city with a strong identity, a mix of old values and love for progress. But, who really are its people? Where do they come from?

TRANSITIONS

AURÈLE FERRIER (Suiza / Swiss)

2017 / 12’ 48’’

TRANSITIONS is a journey from the civilizing void of the desert to a maximal urban, capitalistic and hedonistic density, which in the case of Las Vegas assumes some bizarre expression. The film isa contemplation without any people or moving machines in it, focussing on the built and designed. The narration is fragmentary and works with calm frontal, raw tracking shots. TRANSITIONS is also a narrative of «city-becoming».

Banda sonora / Soundtrack: Floating Spectrum

KU, The Void is an immersive audiovisual experience, using hacked scientific technology as an artistic medium. The analog visuals derive from an oscillograph,  and are transformed via computer vision into real – time motion data to drive a generative sound system. KU is an ongoing study focusing on light as its pure being. Using Oscilloscopes, KU shapes and transforms light into its own unique existence, without coupling with external objects. Unlike the ordinary AV performances, KU lets teh complex and organic moving pictures drive through sound generation. This approach sculpts the music and allows it to evolve seamlessly with the images.

LAST NIGHT I HAD A DREAM

MEGAN-LEIGH HEILIG (Sudáfrica / South Africa)

2017 / 11’ 0’’

Banda Sonora / Soundtrack: Royalty Free, Copyright Free Tracks: Landing_On_a_Dark_Planet, Lost_In_The_Forest, Space_Chatter, That_Slapper

This short film was shot on a mirrorless camera (panasonic GH4) in a studio and then edited on Final Cut Pro. It explores anxiety experienced in dreams. It is both a reflection of a societal precondition as well as a contextual variable condition. The fear of losing something in a dream has been widely discussed and investigated in psychoanalytical theory and in filmic practices such as those of David Lynch. With the downgrade of the South African Rand to ‘Junk Status’ the relationship between the economy, white monopoly capital and international trade relations; is evidence of, and a contributing factor to social anxiety. This experience of anxiety is epitomized by a story which my friend told me of her trip to Russia, where she kept waking up in fear that she had lost her South African passport, which she was required to carry on her at all times. It is this general atmosphere of surveillance and state paranoia which this film engages. «The Inspector was a great patron of the arts and industry, but most of all he loved government banknotes. ‘There’s nothing finer than banknotes,’ he used to say. ‘They don’t need feeding, take up very little room and slip nicely into the pocket. And they don’t break if you drop them» (The Nose by Nikolai Gogol: 1836; 58).

Banda sonora / Soundtrack: Juan Carlos Sánchez Duque

I do not know where the thinking genesis come from, it just happens and it is able to link lived events, and hence recorded, with moment’s sensations. In the same thinking line in which Bill Viola says “recording is like to look at and editing is like to think” so I place my camera in the space and momento decided because there is a intuition that include whole those moments and it responds to a inner interest that I can feel latent.

THE HUM

His unknown origin is the basis for numerous conspiracy theories. The video THE HUM uses this signal, as well as others of unknown origin (audio files found on the Internet) for the basis of the soundtrack. Banda sonora / Soundtrack: aboombong

This video is a part of my PhD thesis which is based on an artistic project entitled “Silence, serenity, emptiness – invites, entices, calls. A painting as a film frame”, which comprises three canvas paintings and three matching videos. The canvas paintings blend with the moving pictures, that is the animations projected on them. Whole story of this video happens in one place, a kind of a path in a dark forest. Darkness, swaying trees, buzzing insects. Nature changes slowly, led by its natural rhythm. We can see what nature offers to us: trees, clouds, insects, birds, sun, moon, grass, some pollen, dust, but also something more. The rationality creeps a little irrationality to discreetly make landscape a little more unreal. Video causes in us a feeling of insecurity. Nature becomes something strange and scary. We can feel that we are alone…

(Gilbert J. Rose)

Unwelcome experiences from trauma have led me to having intrusive thoughts. The hidden forces of the unconscious blend with traumatic memories and incoherent mixtures from my subconscious mind, forming bizarre images, which appeared in my daydreams and night dreams.

The overlap between art and psychoanalysis involves the continuing puzzle as to the differences and similarities between everyday thoughts. (Gilbert J. Rose)

EL GRAN ARSÉNICO

ALBERT MERINO (España / Spain)

2015 / 10’ 00’’
Banda sonora / Soundtrack: Albert Merino y Januibe Tejera

Le grand arsénique is a visual metaphor about the bastardy and the damned in the sacred painting. The starting point is the ‘Temptations of St Anthony’ an usual subject used by several painters during middle age and the centuries XV and XVI for the representation of violent and depraved spirits. Using these imaginaries and specifically the picture with the same name of the Flemish painter ‘Peter Huys’ these elements came to find us under multiple morphologies and in the way as an archive of images. Mixing some existing elements inspired in the mentioned paintings with original ones, this film shows us an itinerary through the unconscious of the collective memory.

GREEN

Banda Sonora / Soundtrack: k137

The first life forms on Earth have been plants. Chlorophyllis organisms are the bigger on our planet and are an important source of food because it is the basis of our food chain. This omnipresence of the green component imposes on the human and animal visual organ, finer than primordi, to distinguish in particular the different shades of green in order to have better chances of survival, predation, and dietary selection of foods. I chose this color, for the abstract 3d shapes generated, to trigger a primal, primordial, unconscious feeling in the observer. A sequence of granularized sounds (created with Ableton Live) activates a continuous change of shape of a 3d object, this object feeds on audio. 3D rendering is created in real time by synchronizing Max Msp (with Jitter video library) with Live Ableton via Midi protocol and FFT audio synthesis.

GATE NUMBER 9”

CHRISTIAN ZANOTTO (Holanda-Italia / Netherlands-Italy)

Banda Sonora / Soundtrack:  Christian Zanotto

The video «Gate Number 9» shows the evolutions in the space of a hypnotic and essential figure, on the wire of a background sound that seems to originate from ubiquitous metaphysical ambits . The skin or sheath that wraps her is totally covered by the worldwide diffused Bayer’s trademark ; the figure, whose skin mutates and changes colors, lights up with glows and transparencies, allowing at intervals a glimpse on the underlying musculature. She disappears and reappears in the void, moving and waving in sinuous and sometimes impossible movements; the only element that she wears is a pair of round glasses. In the audio sentences resound, repeating themselves, extracted from the famous experimental piece «Revolution 9», merged with other fragments; one can hear: «… at gate…number 9…you became naked …» or «you become human».

FLOWMASTER

NEVIENE EMAM (Egipto/Egypt)

Motion is the opposite of silence which is the difference between any motion and other and it is one scene when it is silence. Recording a certain moment missing what’s before it, neglecting what is after it. If the scene moved it will show another timing away from its recorded moment; to become thanks to the motion a new composition of a silent scene.

THE IMAGE OF MAN

John Berger, Ways of Seeing.

“Seeing comes before words […] The relation between what we see and what we know is never settled.” John Berger, Ways of Seeing.

In the realm of technology progression and the ability to edit and share footage on a daily basis, does the image lose the value it had or did it transform to a new material for editing and artistic intervention. Did the image now gain a new value that has no connection to reality? Did its role became to engage with myth, as a way to represent the vision of the one who captured and edited it? Are these myths meaningful? Do the engaged people realize that it doesn’t have any relation to reality? Or are we just in a vicious circle that goes deeper in imagination and hallucination?

Existing of something/someone means that it has been produced through a very well designed process that combined three aesthetics. First one is called (flow) or to unconsciously be. The second is (Rhythm), or to ensure the product’s longevity, please abide by its preset daily routine. Third is (Contrast) following a set of methods, terms and orders as well as competitively fighting for the standards.

DEFORESTACIÓN

FRAN PÉREZ RUS (España / Spain)

2016 / 6’00’’

‘Deforestation’ poses the current loss of forest mass from the digital perspective, placing the problem also in the virtual plane. Starting with a computerized aesthetic of 3D captures based on a cloud of points, three videos collect different fictitious landscapes that have never existed on the physical plane. This representation that starts from the fiction implies a reading that transcends the material and places us in a virtual reality, where the nature is shown to us from the merely visual, in spectral way. Thus the trees are ‘saved / saved’ from their possible deforestation.

PANOPTICON-TIME DIMENSION-IN THE MIRROR_OUT OF THE MIRROR

YA-LUN TAO (Taiwán / Taiwan)

2016

What do we mean by “reality?” Reality is what our ideas make of it. The net of our ideas spreads from our bodies and perceptions in the very same way the spider spins its web, and then gradually constructs the whole world and the universe. We cannot imagine how the universe is possible without the activities of our consciousness. Treating “self-consciousness” as the point of departure, we begin to observe and learn things related to us, which is the way the world is constructed. Our consciousness stretches as far as our vision can reach. It applies to the natural world as well as to our inner one. Our bodies, along with the world we live in, is an enormous projector screen of consciousness.

CEP: REALIDADES OBSERVABLES

ANA MARCOS-ALFONSO VILLANUEVA (España / Spain)

2016-2017

The CEP (Collective Emotional Perception) project encompasses a series of Installations that offer visitors a different audiovisual experience, where their engagement, their body movement and their emotions constantly modify and regenerate the projected audiovisual piece. In this way, the exhibition is shaped around the visitors who are the producers of forms and images through an invisible sensor system that measures the collective response of the spectators in the exhibition space. The video installation becomes a canvas, a medium on which to interact, operate and construct images with the complementary information that is obtained from sensors that monitor the position of the spectators, their involvement / attention, their facial expressions (i.e.: smile, Frown and / or surprise, happiness, fear) to finally regenerate in an audiovisual piece, a unique projection that depends on public interaction in real time. Thus, the spectators are the artists who perform and feed with their gesture the work of art.

The Uncertainty principle says it is not possible to measure two related physical variables with total accuracy. The Physics laws force to choose one as an observer. The act of observing modulates and influences the result. Observable Realities, the subtitle of the installation, takes this concept of Quantum Physics to define the measurable result of an observed reality. This idea has served to subvert measures and build a network of algorithms that react with the public.

Starting from a projection-canvas or background video to intervene as a thread of the video installation, navigation through four scenarios inspired by the four elements of the alchemical tradition (water, earth, fire,  air), will show worlds whose multi-dimensionality cannot be measured as it is not known by science. Random perturbations of what it is shown to discover, reveal and re-invent the forms of representation of a hidden world will help us to take a new step to imagine new Universes with other dimensions of observable reality.

LE BAIN

MARIE-FRANCE GIRAUDON (Canadá / Canada)

2017 / 4’ 40’’
Banda Sonora / Soundtrack: Marie-France Giraudon
Videoinstalación en 3 loops / Videoinstallation in 3 loops

Le bain is a work based on a formal and performative approach that develops un introspective and poetic aspect of one’s self. The video shows a female body immersed. Emerge a new and strange entity. Over the repetitive rhythm of gesture under the water, the work reveals a space favorable to metamorfosis, where the body fragments and recompose. While affirming its autonomy, its parts seem to seek a lost unity, interacting almost in unison. And at the same time, also exhibit the force and the fragility of the human body.

Passion is the confusion crossing. Fog dissipates to let us glimpse the tidy reality through. The aim is to find the center, the imperceptible point that contains everything, where polarities unify. In a blind trance and a polluted breath, one can wait a lifetime to get in tune, and so do I. Truth shows itself sporadically and if we all experienced it, it leads to another level.
