El Japan Media Arts Festival es un festival integral de artes multimedia (Media Geijutsu en japonés) que rinde homenaje a obras destacadas de una amplia gama de medios, desde animación y cómics hasta arte multimedia y juegos. El festival otorga premios en cada una de sus cuatro divisiones: Arte, Entretenimiento, Animación y Manga. También proporciona una plataforma para apreciar los trabajos premiados y otros trabajos notables. Desde su inicio en 1997, el festival ha reconocido importantes obras de alto arte y creatividad, y además de una exposición anual de obras premiadas, ha realizado otros eventos, como simposios, proyecciones y exhibiciones.

 

The Japan Media Arts Festival is a comprehensive festival of Media Arts (Media Geijutsu in Japanese) that honors outstanding works from a diverse range of media – from animation and comics to media art and games. The festival gives awards in each of its four divisions: Art, Entertainment, Animation, and Manga. It also provides a platform for appreciation of the award-winning and other notable works. Since its start in 1997, the festival has recognized significant works of high artistry and creativity, and in addition to a yearly Exhibition of Award-winning Works, has held other events, such as symposiums, screenings, and showcases.

Tsukiji Fish Market,  a  famous fish market in Japan, moved in 2018. This is the story of a rat that has lost paradise.

«GON, THE LITTLE FOX» [Gon, el pequeño zorro]  Takeshi Yashiro  [Japón / Japan, 2019]  27’ 57”

Cuando Gon, un juguetón zorro huérfano, descubre que el joven Hyoju ha perdido a su madre, trata de consolarlo y enmendar sus propias travesuras anteriores trayendo en secreto pequeños obsequios al joven todos los días. Pero Hyoju no se da cuenta de quién está detrás de los obsequios anónimo y así los dos se encaminan hacia un clímax desgarrador.

When Gon, a playful orphaned fox, finds that young Hyoju has lost his mother, he tries to comfort him and make amends for his own earlier mischiefs by secretly bringing small gifts to the young man every day. But Hyoju doesn’t realize who is behind the anonymous gifts, and the two are headed for a heartbreaking climax.

En los 90 vivía en la zona residencial junto a la fábrica. Un día encontré un elefante en la casa de baños de los empleados a la que solía ir. A partir de entonces, me embarqué en una experiencia especial.

In the 90s, I lived in the residential area next to the factory. One day I found an elephant in the employee bathhouse where I used to go. Henceforth,I embarked on a special experience.

En una habitación de hospital, la Hija recuerda un momento de la infancia cuando de pequeña trató de compartir con su padre su experiencia con un pájaro herido. Un momento de malentendido y un abrazo perdido se han extendido durante muchos años hasta esta habitación del hospital, hasta el momento en que el cristal de una ventana se rompe bajo el impacto de un pajarito.

In a hospital room, the Daughter recalls a childhood moment when as a little girl she tried to share her experience with an injured bird with her Father. A moment of misunderstanding and a lost embrace has stretched into many years all the way to this hospital room, until the moment when a window pane breaks under the impact of a little bird.

Esta película está ambientada en Tokio durante un período de lluvia ininterrumpida. Cuenta la historia de Hodaka, un niño que huye de su isla natal en un ferry y conoce a Hina, una niña huérfana que vive con su hermano menor. Hina tiene el misterioso poder de limpiar el cielo rezando. Hodaka y Hina inician un negocio que satisface las solicitudes de sus clientes de despejar el cielo para eventos especiales. Sin embargo, el coste de esto para la capacidad de Hina, junto con la carga de las expectativas de las personas, comienza a provocar un cambio dramático en su destino.El creador ha adoptado y ampliado los motivos de obras anteriores y, al mismo tiempo, ha entretejido en la historia el fenómeno del clima extremo, siempre un problema importante en el mundo moderno. Esta incursión en nuevos terrenos ha creado un gran revuelo.

This film is set in Tokyo during a period of nonstop rain. It tells the story of Hodaka, a boy who flees from his native island on a ferry and meets Hina, an orphan girl who lives with her younger brother. Hina has the mysterious power of clearing the sky by praying. Hodaka and Hina start a business that fulfills their clients’ requests to clear the sky for special events. The cost of this to Hina’s ability, along with the burden of people’s expectations, however, start to bring about a dramatic shift in fate for them. The creator has adopted and further expanded motifs from earlier works, and at the same time has interwoven into the story the phenomenon of extreme weather, always a major issue in the modern world. This foray into new ground has created quite a stir.

<GRAND PRIZE>

Cuando Ruka era más joven, vio un fantasma en el agua del acuario donde trabaja su padre. Ahora se siente atraída hacia el acuario y los dos misteriosos chicos que conoce allí, Umi y Sora, que fueron criados por «dugongos» y escuchan las mismas extrañas canciones del mar que ella. El padre de Ruka y los otros adultos son solo vagamente conscientes de lo que están experimentando los niños mientras se ven atrapados en el mar en un misterio mundial.

When Ruka was younger, she saw a ghost in the water at the aquarium where her dad works. Now she feels drawn toward the aquarium and the two mysterious boys she meets there, Umi and Sora. They were raised by dugongs and hear the same strange songs from the sea as she does. Ruka’s dad and the other adults are only distantly aware of what the children are experiencing as they get caught up in the worldwide mystery at the sea.
