Programa TECH-MYTH PRODUCTION WORKSHOP:

The Monographs section reviews the work as a whole of festivals, programs specially commissioned to curators of countries with a very representative production, of private collections as well as institutions and independent labels. On this occasion, video creations selected by Medrar for Contemporary Art and the Video Festival of Cairo and round table will be shown with Mohamed Allam, co-founder and director of Medrar for Contemporary Art and mena El Shazly, artistic director of the Cairo Video Festival.

The Cairo video festival is an established platform for dialogue between video artists, curators and the public, as well as a space for artists to display innovative and low-budget video art productions. Thee productions  are selected according to quality, authenticity and conviction in the investigation of the subject. During the ten days of screenings, talks with artists and discussion panels, the Cairo Video Festival is dedicated to fostering the growing interest of the public towards the production of new media and experimentation. The festival was the first contribution Medrar made to the artistic scene in 2005 and is the project with which Medrar for Contemporary Art was established later. Its beginning go back to a collective of visual artists who experimented with a new medium and who took the initiative to establish themselves in a space where the works of these artists, as well as other parts of the world, could be shown from the heart of this vigorous city. In MADATAC will be shown works gathered in two programs:

TECH-MYTH PRODUCTION WORKSHOP:

Videos of Egyptian artists that move around the concept of Mito, a word that is often used to describe cultural stories that diverge from the logic of those societies that considered themselves founded on the rational and scientific. The ability of technology to remix reality, through the editing and circulation of images, seems to have evolved: first it provided a magical fantasy, now it also challenges the very concept of truth. Who would have guessed that the renewed legitimation of non-scientific accounts of reality would emerge from the bastion of science itself? For artists who work with the moving image, what kind of possibilities can arise? Perhaps our sense of general vision and our capacity of control are potentially disappearing, but this sense could have been fictitious. The lived myth is indistinguishable from the facts. Only the myths of The Other appear as fantastic and surreal…
