In the painting of Caspar David Friedrich «the monk facing the sea», with a composition divided into three planes, dominating the horizontality, broken by the diminutive verticality of the character, takes us into an infinite space, a turbulent sea, a tempest that is coming. The figure is within the turbulence, of the storm, consciously aware of its mortality, impotence, fragility, expelled by those same natural forces that once welcomed it, returns to the search of the beginning, of the origin, to what could be. Both the use of light, color, speed, noise, are all elements that contribute to create a state of deconstruction and loss. Symbolically, the representation is feminine, an iconic representation throughout the entire history of the aesthetic imaginary, which endowed it with its own attributions within the structural system of a binary social hierarchy.

Ghost Terminal

RYAN CHEREWATY

[PAISES BAJOS / NETHERLANDS, 2020]     16’ 49’’

This work investigates the phenomenon of worldwide shipping and logistics with a focal point on the shipping container through an abstract narrative. The container changed the world into an Amazon delivery route, and has profound implications into the future. This piece features computer generated imagery of human exclusion zones. These are industrial places that are completely controlled by AI systems, and already are installed throughout the world. Additionally, interspersed in this narrative there is a simulation of a disaster at sea with shipping containers littered across the ocean. A voiceover narrates and the diminishing role of the human in this system. It also highlights how our sensory organs are responsible for our conscious representation of reality and perception of the passage of time, and the incompatibility our system has with the machinic sense of time. Please note this is a work in progress.

Fuga

A woman without face; a house where everything is repeated in cycles; a man for whom are left only images. From the darkness of loneliness, a crack in the reality brings some hope for the run away. A self-portrait where the ordinary opens to the fantastic in a dialog about the limits of reality and the influence of the creation.
