No sabemos nada.
«Peony» is a video installation of the award-winning Taiwanese artist Isa Ho in which she reflects on the role and position of women in contemporary society in relation to the unique development of popular culture. And it does so through a delicate comparison, and at the same time juxtaposition, of two artistic genres: one of the oldest forms of Chinese opera, the Kun Opera (Kun Qu), and the modern and popular Korean K-Pop. Not in vain the artist titles her work with one of the classic pieces of the Kun Qu repertoire and makes it his own, evidencing the signs of how the new generation of women is changing the world. «Peony» is an adaptation of the song «Hate» by the female group 4-Minute. By means of such disparate parallels about the way in which the female body is presented in both artistic forms, movements, symbolic gestures and the links between the past and the present, Ho emphasizes the importance that today women have greater freedom to take decisions and make their own choices. Unlike the Kun Opera, K-Pop songs do not always have a perfect ending. Maybe because there is no fear of the future as such or of what will happen. We do not know anything. «But that’s fine. The bravery and energy of the new generation are so intimidating that they must be seen as a symbol of transformation. No previous experience or context can allow an interpretation of what will change, however, we must take them seriously. Precisely because we know nothing, «says the artist.
