19/01/2017 @ 18:00 - 20:00

ONÍRICA / ONEIRIC

POLONIA/POLAND 2010

A film by Lech Majewski

Inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy, Lech Majewski  will release in Spain at MADATAC 08, the movie «Onírica-Field of Dogs», concluding his trilogy on the great works of the classics (The Mill and the Cross» – from the Way of the Calvary of Brueghel- premiered by MADATAC in its fifth edition, and «The Garden of the delights», based on the work of El Bosco). Adam (Michal Tatarek) loses his girlfriend and his best friend in a car accident. His solitary nature prevents him from returning to his routine: he quits his studies and starts working as a cashier in a supermarket. There, in the most banal reality, his life is limited to the routes from the shop to his discreet room in the small and dark apartment of his Aunt Xenia (Elzbieta Okupska), a translator of Persian poetry. The only escape from this infernal world will be Dante’s reading, so that Adam immerses himself, along with the viewer, into a romantic sphere of lovers separated by death. Only through his dreams can he meet the beings he has loved and seek the door of paradise. At the same time, Poland is affected by a natural disaster (floods in the south of the country, the President’s plane crashes in Smolensk carrying the head of state, his wife and more than one hundred state agents) and the sky Covered with the ashes of an Icelandic volcano. A chain of events that for Lech Majewski is not the result of chance. Maybe hell, Dante’s hell.

«Onírica» explores the supernatural world of the beyond to translate it into a concrete reality. A kind of osmosis in which the author offers a whole forest of images of which one can only get hurt by crossing them, although they end up being unforgettable. Images that, according to the author himself returned regularly in his dreams and soon became incarnated in reality with the tragic events of 2010. «At the beginning of that year I had a kind of omen. I saw the image of a field in southern Poland with its rows of reinforced concrete electric poles completely covered with frost and so deformed by the wind that they seemed false. This foreshadowing was, for me, the prologue to the film. «

A true mixture of delirium, imagination, will, desire, dream and postcards that fill our heads … «We have a very complicated nature and that’s how I want to present the human being», point the director.
