DURATIONS_MAOTIK & METAMETRIC

Durations,  is an overwhelming and shattering electro-acoustic dream. Rhythm is described as the layout of sounds of different lengths played within a regular or irregular beat. Breaking these sounds down with granulation effect while following the rhythm, you obtain micro-rhythms within those beats. This is the starting point of this A/V concert. When it comes to the visual aspect, the idea is to associate space perception with the notion of time. The evolution of the rhythm influences the dimension of the environment when the sound granulation shapes the texture of the geometrical «instantiation» (group of items). Using minimal aesthetics and audio reactive behavior, Durations immerses the audience in an organic audiovisual experience.

Digital artist based in Montreal, Mathieu Le Sourd (Maotik) focuses its work on the creation of immersive multimedia environments and generative visuals. His work has recently been presented in various festivals around the world, such as Live Cinema in Rio, the Plums Festival in Moscow, Visiones in Lima, Mutek Festival (Montreal, Mexico city, Barcelona and Bogota)the British Film Institute in London and ARS electronica festival.
As lead of Moment Factory’s interactive team in 2011, Le Sourd produced large scale projects such as the multimedia experience in the new terminal at the Los Angeles airport as well as the visuals for Nine Inch Nailsworld tour. in 2013, he produced the critically-acclaimed immersive multimediaperformance DROMOS, which was presented at the SATosphere in Montreal as part of the Mutek festival. Always in search of new challenges, Le Sourd designs his own visual tools by generating animations from algorithms and creating 3D worlds to transform perceptions of space. He collaborates with musicians, sound artists an scientists in order to continue his research into the relationship
between art, science and technology.

Jean-François Pedno’s (Metametric) career is already growing when he received a “Mention d’Honneur” for his electronic composition “Obsessions” at the Luigi Russolo contest in Varèse, Italy in 1999. The next year he received an award for the best original music of the theatre play Antartikos. He composed original music for more than fifty theatre, dance and film productions. He played in many dance and theatre shows on stage as live musician. He played in many ochestras of all genres, classical, jazz, modern, percussion ensembles. In 2002, he realased his first solo album “Unexpected Areas” aka Jeff Nô. In 2010, he produced his second solo album «Durations» aka Metametric. His music has been played in Canada, USA, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, Spain, Scotland, England, Ireland, Italy and France.

MADATAC bridges artistic relations and collaborations dedicated to give visibility, divulge, stimulate the creativity and productive capacity and strengthen the sustainability of audio-visual and video art in all its modalities (any processes of image-sound interaction, without exclusion of the experimental cinema), with the aim to offer a platform for all those emergent video artists, as well as to the consecrated artists, who contribute with renewing proposals, avoid conventional visual language and does not find their place in other mass media spaces. MADATAC is a non-profit and independent project that promotes a cultural diversity approach for cutting edge experimental audio-visual culture, that particularly values innovation, originality and risk-taking art projects, as well establish a meeting point where European and International new media and video artists, curators, collectors, critics, art dealers, cultural promoters and general audience can discover what is going on in this art fields and exchange experiences so to institute the foundation for a new concept of moving image art. The objective is to encourage the participation of citizens in the digital new media art culture and to promote the exchange of knowledge between professionals with collaborative projects which serve as a collective laboratory where artists can present their most recent creations to the greater public, as well to the trained members of the community, to attain a fruitful feedback between themselves and as a way towards an interaction with society. We established an understanding space that offer the necessary references towards where is heading the contemporary audio-visual art and the new moving image, reinforced by a Cyberculture & New Media Art Symposium, with master classes,
conferences, colloquies, debates, round tables, performances, technical short courses and workshops, given by the participants artists as well by recognized theorists and professionals of the
medium (as Brian Eno, Roy Ascott, Derrick de Kerchkove, Ryoji Ikeda, Lech Majewski, Reynold Reynolds, Claudia Gianetti, José Ramón Alcalá,), so that they can exhibit and can teach to the audience how they work, communicate their expectations, projects of future, or the approach they have or wish to have on the field in which they develop their creativity. On the other side, our activities are directed to new creative tendencies that evolve parallel to the technological advances in all
levels, as well stimulate the investigation and promotion of innovative digital projects applied to the arts, science and the mass media, trying to search a confluence between academic and experimental processes in order to create essentially projects based on the recognition of the innovating contribution. MADATAC ending project is the Transmadatac Virtual Museum,  an on-line interactive multi-platform for Audio Visual Art andm,Advanced Technologies applied to New Media Art.
